I want to put roof rack on Ford E 350 to carry ladders & heavy stuff, I think steel works better than aluminum?

I did ask couple of contractors about ALUMINUM racks and they said ALUMINUM is good as light duty but STEEL racks are good for all heavy scaffolds long pipes, 2×4,..etc.
Is there anybody used aluminum roof rack for heavy load. I live in Canada and I did ask Canadian roof racks manufacturer here www.bestnetoutlet.com so they also said if I take Steel rack load is not a problem and all depends on how strong roof on the van not rack itself. Any ideas?

Steel will rust and being in canada (depending on location the weather extremities may play a part ) although you can get it plated to lessen the effects, aluminum will not rust however check the links provided for steel vs aluminum facts as well as a forum on 4wd racks.
