Psi Compressor
my compressor delivers 9 cfm@150 psi. is that what i would get if i wanted to pump that same volume underwater?
9cfm@150 psi – i want to pump that volume of air at a depth of 300 feet , where the water pressure is approx 150 psi . so the compressor has already compressed the air, will it undergo more compression once released underwater or will it retail its already compressed by the machine volume
can you give an estimate as to the expected lossed , given that i have suplied the proper piping to handle the 9 cfm @150 psi..underwater.
Assuming no other losses, yes.
A rough estimate is 1/2 psi per foot of water height , so approximately 300feet under water.
You will have less CFM due to flow losses through pipe and hoses etc. As you go deeper the receiver will be come less effective as a storage device of compressed air and your pipe will need to be sized to handle 9CFM all the way to the bottom. At seal level we can use small air hoses because the air is supplied at a high pressure and is allowed to expand at the point of use. At depth you will loose that pressure differential advantage
