Increase in weight of a car on hill?
I need to pull a car (engine not running) from stationary up a slope (ramp) with a hand winch and cable.
The car weighs 1400 kilograms. The ramp is at a 45 degree angle.
How do I calculate the increase in weight of the car owing to gravity? From the calculation I will then purchase a winch with the required “weight” capacity.
I have searched the net, but have not found anything useful.

Thank you to the people who have taken the time to offer answers to my question. As the three answers offer some different information in each post, am I able to share the accepted answer between the three people? If so, how do I undertake this process?
The car’s weight does not increase ‘owing to gravity’. Its weight remains constant. Think of your problem this way: if you were attempting to lift the car vertically you would require a hoist with sufficient capacity ( with a sufficient margin for safety, of course) to LIFT 1400 kg.. The ramp at a 45 degree angle supports some of that 1400 kg. so the load on the winch is decreased. You must be certain that the anchor point of your winch (not on the car) can withstand the load so as not to break free during movement of the vehicle. Of course, the winch cable connection point on the vehicle must be sound as well. I would suggest a winch of at least 2500 kg. capacity – a larger one would not be that much more expensive, so I would say be safe, not sorry.
HOWEVER!!!!!!! Hiring a tow truck operator with the proper pulling equipment is relatively inexpensive and is far and away the best way to go and is a whole lot safer. BEST BET!!! That’s my story – and I’m stickin’ to it !!!
