We used to have a group of 4 best friends. now one got on the other’s case about being Jewish…please help!
We were all such great friends and then one of the girls decided to press against the Jewish one and tell her she was going to Hell if she didn’t believe Jesus was our savior and if she wasn’t Christian. Over 2 night, quarreling over IM, our group is broken up and kinda split down the middle. I”m with the Jewish girl and the other two kind of gang up on the Jewish one. I’ve gotten to be better friends with the other two again, but cant help but feel guilty when the Jewish girl sees me sitting with them at lunch and vise versa when i sit with her. Then the jewish one gives me the cold shoulder for no reason and then the next day is all chipper. i dont know what to do after her also telling the three of us completely different stories about how she feels about the whole ordeal. I have no idea what to do with this utterly confusing situation..just middle school drama i guess…
Your Jewish friend probably feels singled out and hurt that one of your other friends would stop being friends with her over something so trivial. Try to understand that Jewish people have been, and still go through, a lot of social difficulties because of their beliefs and customs.
First, you need to tell your Jewish friend to be up front about how she feels about the situation. Odds are she’s very hurt and upset. Then if you can, try and get all four of you all to sit down and have a private, civilized discussion, to where each girl can express her point of view without any shouting, quarrelling, etc.
The only way all four of you can continue to be friends without all this evil eye, “choosing” bullshit is for your zealous Christian friend (do forgive my description, but that’s what she sounds like) to accept your Jewish friend’s different beliefs. Your zealous Christian friend has Christianity down wrong like so many other Christians. Christianity is not about judging who is or isn’t going to hell, it is about love. She is not being very loving towards the Jewish girl by telling her that she’s going to go hell. Who is she to tell the Jewish girl whether she’s going to hell or not? No one knows that except God.
