Honda motorbike chain replacement?
I have just bought a new chain and sprocket set for my honda valadero the chain comes with a joining link and appears to possibly require a special tool to rivet the link in place. as i was hoping to do the job myself and save on labour costs i was wondering if anyone can tell me of an alternative method for riveting the chain link.
there is a way of riveting the chain yourself without the special tool, but judging by your question I’m guessing you don’t have experience with it, so i would recommend you don’t do it.
Take it to a garage and let them do it…a riveting tool is £60, so it’ll pay for itself in the second use.
If you rivet the chain yourself without a chain riveter then the chances are you will balls it up. a mate of mine was riding once when his chain snapped and jammed the back wheel…he went flying over the handle bars and smashed his face on the concrete. luckily he lives in the UK, so he was wearing a helmet, and he wasn’t too badly screwed up…
